Time to Reflect

1. Tell why you think it is important to be able to divide numbers. For what kind of problems do you need to use division?

I think it is important because, in different countries the money is different too, so you need to convert it into the money you know, and we need to division when we buy stuff because we have to see what is left.

2. Tell what part of this unit was the most difficult for you and why. Describe what you did to overcome any difficulties you had.

I think the most difficult part was when we had to ignore the decimal and make the remainder into a decimal, because sometimes if I don't read the question and do it, it's very easy to make a mistake because some will tell you to convert the remainder into a decimal, now I read my questions more carefully, now I don't have that many mistakes.

Parables

The same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. A large crowd of people gathered around him. Jesus got into a bout and sat in it, while the crowd stood on the shore. Then he told the people lots of things in parables. The seed sown along the path means that the ones who hears the message about the kingdom does not understand, and the evil comes and snatches it away. The one who received the seed that fell among the rocks is the man that hears the word and receives it with joy, but since it has no root, he last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. The one that received the seed among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of his life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, and it becomes unfruitful. But the one that received the seed that fell on the good soil, is the man that hears the word and understands it. The connection I have to my life is, that people should be like the man who received the seed that fell among the good soil, after we hear the word and understand it we should do it immediately.

Writing Reflection

1. What do I notice about myself as a writer as I read through my work?

I noticed that my opening sentences are pretty good, usually my last paragraph is good too, and I show lots of details.

2. How have I changed as a writer so far?

I think that I used to much of the word "I", and I should do more describing.

3. What are three things I do well as a writer?

My open sentence are good, I have lots of details, and I do a little bit of showing, which I have to do more of.

4. What are some things I want to get stronger at as a writer?

I think I should make my stories longer, show and not tell, I should use the word "I" less.

5. What is my favorite piece, and what are the things I love about it?

My favorite piece is Hermit Crab Hunt, I really like my open sentence, the paragraph describing how we catch the hermit crabs and the last paragraph.

Math

Factor Captor is a lot of fun, you have to know prime numbers and the factors. When it is your turn to pick a number you want to find a prime number, because a prime number only has two factors, one and itself. At first I didn't know much about the game, so I was just randomly picking numbers, and was losing very badly. Now I know better, and is not that bad at the game anymore.

Arrays are made by dots lined up together, in columns and rows. You can find some of the factors are in the array like the first row is one, and the first column one is always a factor, and itself.

I really liked learning about, prime numbers and factors, we played lots of games about factors and prime numbers, one game was Factor Captor, in Factor Captor you just have to know about factors and prime numbers, I think learning about factors and prime numbers are a lot of fun.

Learning-September 16th 2009

Math:

I think math is a lot of fun, because we play while we learn, and you get to solve different problems. This year we learn how to make factor trees, we learned what square numbers and exponents are, we were learning about prime numbers and composite numbers, prime numbers are numbers that only have two factors, and composite numbers are numbers that have more than two factors. We played a lot of games too. Some were Factor Captor and Baseball Multiplication. Math is lots of fun.
